In-ear phones, that are too small to include technology such as Bluetooth, get round it by by having the tech in a separate component that usually hangs on a neck cord. With these Sony in-ear headphones, a 50cm cable that also includes a power button. What this means is that in-ear units themselves are very small and light at only 57 grams – which compares favourably with your typical non-wireless in ear headphones. The range is around five metres or so, which is perfect for using out and about when you’re likely to have you MP3 player in your pocket or bag, but not quite so good if you want to use them in the home, i.e. walk into the kitchen to make a cuppa while your MP3 player is on the side in the lounge and you’re likely to start going out of range. The battery life of these phones is about four hours, so not bad for commuting and walks, but not so good for longer flights.

When will manufacturers start standardising on charger sockets for all gadgets!? However other than that little gripe, the build quality of these alloy bodied phones is second to none, and the sound is amazingly clear, with an impressive bass response, delivering an enjoyable listening experience with everything from electronic pop to hard rock.
